Starting my day at 8 am, and rarely going to bed before midnight. In between? Webinars to upgrade my skills, Zoom meetings with clients. Facebook Live. Reaching out to friends – more Zoom.

Sending emails. Strategizing about the future.

Personally, my eyes are burning in the evening time.

Even I need to learn to take a break. I have more time to work now, actually, since the time used to spend in traffic jams is gone.

We have more time than ever. I realise that the traffic jam that I had to fight through from my office to home, before the crisis, was my break. My transition into a personal part of my life.

Getting me ready to relax into the evening. I wasn’t much in the mood anymore to restart work, once I reached home.

This transition is gone.

And what do we do? We work. Sitting in front of the laptop, hacking away at the keyboard.

I personally have the feeling that I work so much more while under #WFH order and #Covid 19. Ok, I am independent, run my own company #AsiaMindDynamics.

But what I hear from managers and directors in different companies, the lines between personal and professional life have gone. No more #WorkLifeBalance, if it ever existed. They are sitting in their designated places at home, surrounded by family, doing their work, long into the evenings. Meetings happen at a much higher rate. Employers and teamleaders check in more frequently to see, if the respective employee is on track with the project.

People, especially in Asia (sorry! But true, according to my limiting experience) have not learned to clearly separate work and personal space. People in the region, already before the crisis, often stayed in the office way beyond office hours, and remote calls and meetings were already the norm. Now even more so. ?? ??? ?????? ??.

Considering that some companies might decide to continue the current way of work – office work to be done remotely – the toll on the mental health of employees will be heavy.

We – you and I, need to learn to separate us from work and compartmentalize work at home. Designate spaces – here is my workplace, and here is my privacy. And consciously decide to STOP the work, after a certain hour. If this is possible. Before it is too late. But I doubt it will happen.
